Professor of the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability (SEES).

Within this setting, the School of Earth, Environment and Sustainability 
(SEES) is actively engaged in both undergraduate and graduate education, 
research and service. The School represents the combined efforts of the 
Department of Geology and Geography that nowinclude theB.S. 
inGeosciences(concentrationsingeologyandgeography) 
andtheInstituteforCoastal PlainScience, alongwiththerapidlygrowing 
B.S.inSustainabilityScience, andM.S. andPh.D. in Environmental Science. 
In addition to being a significant player in the development of 
interdisciplinary sustainability and environmental degree programs, SEES 
is a substantial contributor to Georgia Southern’s Coastal Resilience 
Research Impact Area and is expected to be an integral component of 
environmental and sustainability teaching and research initiatives 
currently under development at theWexford campus in Ireland. To this 
end, the individual hired to fill this advertised position will be 
expected to help contribute to the expanding role of SEESin both 
teaching and research.

_JobSummary_:ReportingtotheDean,theChair’sworkloaddistributionincludesteaching(20%), 
maintaining an active research agenda(20%), participating in 
disciplinaryand universityservice (10%), and administration of all 
aspects of the School (50%). The position is fiscal year,12- month 
appointment. The salary is competitive and commensurate with 
qualifications and experience.

_RequiredQualifications:_

• Earned doctorate in environmental science, geology, geography, 
geosciences, 
sustainabilityscience,oracloselyrelateddisciplineincluding18graduatesemester 
hours in any of these areas.

•A record of academic accomplishment commensurate with the rank of 
professor with 
tenure,exemplifiedbyresearchthathasbeenbroadlyvalidatedandexternallyfunded, 
and a minimum of 5 years full-time college/university teaching 
experience at the associate professor level.

•ExperienceworkingwithormentoringPhDStudents.

•Demonstratedcommitmentto advancing a strong andgrowing researchand 
scholarship 
agendaandtheproductionofresearch/creativeactivitiesasappropriatetothediscipline.

•PotentialtofurtherenrichtheexistingresearchprofileoftheSchool,aswellasaclear 
plan for a continued research program that can be sustained within the 
workload parameters of the Chair’s position.

•Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction 
and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development. 
Candidates should provide evidenceofacommitmenttofostering 
andvaluingexcellenceinteachingwithafocus on evidence-based practices 
among all faculty in support of student success.

•Willingnesstoengagewithinstitutionalstudentsuccessinitiatives.

•Commitmenttoengagingwithbestpracticeinitiativesininstructionandpedagogy,

_PreferredQualifications:_

•Commitment to and evidence of ability to collaborate effectively with a 
variety of 
constituenciesacrossmultiplecampusesincludingfaculty,staff,universityadministration 
and the public to promote School goals and advocate for School priorities.

•Commitmenttoandevidenceofpotentialtoequitablyevaluateandsupportadvancement 
of all faculty and staff from across an array ranks of sub disciplines 
in the School.

•Minimumof2yearsofadministrativeexperience(e.g.,asdepartmentchair,associate 
chair, assistant dean, graduate program coordinator etc.).

•Evidence of 
academicleadershipexperienceandaccomplishmentsthatdemonstratethe 
potential for effective communication, resource management and 
allocation, supervision of 
personnel,conflictresolutionwhilefosteringapositiveworkenvironment,andprogram 
development and assessment.

_Proposed Salary_

Commensuratewithexperience. Thisisanexemptpositionpaidonamonthlybasis.
