[Coral-List] Passive cooling for reef restoration infrastructure

Deeper water has dramatically higher nutrient concentrations. When we sampled bonuses of cooler upwelled water (based on temperature signal), it had 5 uM nitrate as well as higher PO4. Shallow thermocline upwelling is responsible for macroalgal dominance of the intermediate depth fore reef zones. So make sure your remedy for one problem doesn't cause a new problem.

I think they may be looking for a submerged home for the old ocean liner SS United States

Hi Bryce,
For the Florida Keys maybe we could engineer a large baffle to divert the Florida Current up onto the reef tract to bathe the corals in cooler water. I suggest sinking an old aircraft carrier off the Sambos or Rock Key in about 100 meters of water or deeper.
I am sure the NOAA engineers would have a field day with this project.
If it works it would be a great example of turning weapons into something useful.
