The John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has two open Ph.D.-level research positions. Candidates are expected to conduct holistic research that advances conservation in their respective areas. The positions are based out of Chicago with availability for dedicated research cruises aboard Shedd's 80-foot research vessel, Coral Reef II.
Marine Mesopredator
The John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking candidates for a Research Biologist to focus on Marine Mesopredator Ecology in The Bahamas and Caribbean. Specifically, we are interested in a candidate who will be responsible for developing a robust research program focusing on grouper and snapper species. Preference will be given to candidates that focus on abundance, spatial ecology, reproduction, and population dynamics. Research is expected to be multifaceted, inform resource managers, and advance conservation and sustainable practices. The Research Biologist is expected to work closely with in-country government bodies to ensure the program is holistic and inclusive.

Coral
The John G. Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking candidates for a Research Biologist to focus on coral reef ecology in The Bahamas and Caribbean. Specifically, this will be a Research Biologist who will be responsible for developing a robust research program focusing on coral reef ecosystem health. The Shedd Aquarium currently partners with SECORE (http://www.secore.org) and collaborates with the Perry Institute for Marine Science (www.perryinstitute.org<file:///C:/Users/skessel/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/Content.Outlook/6F55GPBZ/www.perryinstitute.org>), and the development of a research program that builds on these existing relationships would be advantageous. Preference will be given to candidates that specialize on spawning and larval restoration. Research is expected to be multifaceted, inform resource managers, and advance conservation and sustainable practices. The Research Biologist will be expected to work closely with in-country government bodies to ensure the program is holistic and inclusive.
