Dear Coral-Listers,
We welcome marine scientists, natural resource managers, policy makers and other interested parties to submit talks to our upcoming symposium in Darwin in July:
"How can marine science better guide environmental decision-makers?"
Our symposium will be part of the Australian Marine Sciences Association annual conference
http://events.amsaconference.net/sessions-symposia-workshops.html
The problem we'll be tackling:
- Science reporting on the state of the oceans and what it means for people and economies is often opaque, techno-centric and not easily translated to policy advice. As a consequence, environmental policy-makers are often left with judgment calls as the only practical solution, rather than transparent decision-making informed by the best available science.
Symposium purpose:
- To bring a group of enthusiastic speakers and a large audience together around this problem in the marine research and policy arena. We welcome contributions focused on coral reefs.
Scope:
- Presentations are invited from a wide range of fields. Presenters are invited to bring their approaches and examples of decision problems and solutions to the table.
Where: Darwin, Australia
When: 2-6 July 2017
Registrations: http://events.amsaconference.net/registration.html
Note that registrations close 18 February 2017.
We're looking forward to seeing you in Darwin.
Best,
Ken Anthony and Terry Walshe
