Ph.D. opportunity in coral reef ecology at ZMT-Bremen.
Dear colleagues,
currently we are looking for a Ph.D. candidate to fill the below
position at ZMT:

member of the Leibniz Association, which is supported by the German
Federal and State Governments. Through its research, Leibniz-ZMT GmbH
contributes to developing science-based strategies for sustainable use
of tropical coastal systems (www.zmt-bremen.de).
The ZMT has a vacancy for a Ph.D. student to start in mid November 2013.
The appointment is for a three-year period. Salary will be according to
the German TV-L 13 for a half-time position.
Applicants are expected to develop a thesis concept together with the
Ph.D. supervisor at the beginning (first 3 months) of the Ph.D. thesis.
Focus of the work will be on mesocosm experiments with coral reef
communities (corals, other invertebrates, reef algae and/or microbial
communities) under the influence of global (such as ocean warming and
acidification) and/or local/regional stressors (such as removal of
grazers, pollution or eutrophication) in the new mesocosm setup in the
MAREE (Marine Experimental Ecology facility) at ZMT (please see further
information here: http://www.zmt-bremen.de/en/18.3.13.html).
Requirements:
Applicants should hold a Master or Diploma degree in marine biology,
ecology, geobiology or related fields and should ideally have experience
with coral reef ecology/physiology and aquarium manipulation
experiments. A SCUBA diving license (preferably German research diver),
good communication skills, and the proven ability of good scientific
writing are additional assets.
Application:
To apply, please send a motivation letter, a short research outline
(max. one page including key research questions, working hypotheses, and
a summary of manipulation and physiological response parameters), a
complete CV with list of publications and skills, and names with email
addresses and phone numbers of two referees in a single pdf-file to the
email address below. Only short-listed candidates will be notified.
Closing Date:
August 16, 2013 or until a qualified candidate is identified. The
Leibniz-ZMT GmbH is an equal opportunity employer. Disabled persons with
comparable qualification receive preferential status.
