Dear Coral-Listers,
We have a series of papers about microbes and macrobes on coral reefs
published in PEERJ (https://peerj.com/collections/1-line-islands/). Two of
the articles show how we're starting to use oxygen optodes to visualize
microscale oxygen gradients at coral-algal interfaces and for biological
oxygen demand. Another investigates how different algae "culture" up
different microbes. And for those of you that hate microbes, there is a
work on how wave energy is structuring the coral community on Kingman and
Palymra.
PEERJ did a very good job reviewing the papers (high quality, critical
comments) and editing. Thanks to John Bruno for overseeing some the
microbial stuff, which he doesn't like:) PEERJ was a pleasure to work with,
completely open access and their prices are very reasonable.
Sincerely,
Forest Rohwer
